Day 1-2

Well London's pretty sweet so far. We didn't spend much time in the actual city yesterday because our Home-stay parents Les and Hazel picked us up directly from the airport and drove us home. My roommate and I realized how luck we were because most of the students have to get straight off their flight 9-hour overnighter and find their way home through London. The drive took an hour because of crazy London traffic, even though their house was only about 20 miles away.
The couple one the right there are Les and Hazel driving :)

As we drove through down town, we passed right by Big Ben, the London Eye,
and quite a few other buildings that I’ll be seeing and posting later on. These pictures were taken from the back seat of a car so they're not great but it's still pretty cool.

What's not pretty cool is that I brought the wrong charger for my camera so I have to look for a proper one soon but I managed to snap some shots between moving vehicles.

I had fish and chips, the real deal fish and chips. The fish was as long as my freaking arm, i'm not even kidding you. And the fries were delicious too. Les and Hazel are hilarious. Les is a funny Cockney British.  He told me in a stone serious face with his confusing English, "That park right ou’there is haunted, so if ye see a bloke looks like a ghost, run. And if you hear barkin at night, it’s a dog.” LOL
I stared at him for a moment and then both of us started cracking up. I think I’m going to like it here. I taught them how to play 13 and they taught me how to play tri-omino, which is a lot like regular domino’s, or Mexican train, but with triangles. I'm going to have a ton of fun with them, I can already tell.

This morning consisted of me trying to figure out how someone could possible microwave scrambled eggs instead of frying them, and Les making fun of me for not know how to microwave scrambled eggs. I was incredulous. After trying them though I've decided nuked eggs aren't that bad. (If you put some chips on em with brown sauce, eh?)

I still can't get over opposite driving thing. I'm pretty sure I'm bound to die if I get in the driver's seat of a car so I'm not going to bother.

Les gave us a very in-depth description when he could. If he didn't know (there're a lot of office buildings and new construction all the time) he'd do his best. "That's a buildin, that there's a statue."

This guy's a Bobby, the first police force in the world I guess. Back in the day they were named Peelers, after a guy named Peel who founded the police force. Back then they were seen as sort of villains but they've cleaned up their wrap since. At least when they're not handing out parking tickets.

The House of Parliament is definitely something we'll visit again as a class but it was still impressive driving by. Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the tower in the picture above. The rest is just the House.

Well today Danil and I are planning on buying a one-day bus pass (we get our quarterly passes tomorrow at our first class) and taking the bus to a sort of shopping street to pick up some odds and ends. But besides that it should be a pretty low key day. Les keeps reminding us we have an entire quarter to see London so use the time to recover from the jet lag, and I have to agree. I went to bed at 8 o’clock last night and woke up at 5 am. I’m no where near normal yet.

I miss everyone, but I'm having a blast while everyone home's asleep. As always, keep me in your prayers eh?

 Till next time!

My favorite flying peacock! The weather looks nice there, hopefully it will stay like that while you're there so you can enjoy your trip a little more.

Its great that you have such down to earth hosts too! I love cockney English, you gotta have him teach you some before you come back. Oh and get a pic of his sweet tat!

My wife is home with me these past two days horribly sick with the stomach flu and your stories always help take the mind off things.

We love you and miss you! Be safe

Good to hear from you Benji. We are happy you are having a good time and nice family around. Thank them for us and like I told you before take advantage of your time there and use every minute of it. You are in our prayers all the time. I went to the pharmacy today and run into Corina and she told me that this morning on her way to work a voice told her to start praying for you.I told her that I will tell you. Love you and stay healty and safe.
